It is highly likely that you will be in Anitigua. For that reason, you can take an excursion from there in a colllective van ,since it is not many kilometers away and most of the roads are pretty good. In fact, it takes almost 3 hours.

Other thing that you should know is that the collective van drops you off at Panajachel.  From there, you will have to move by boat to the different villages of Lake Atitlan.

Kayaking on the lake

At the main dock, you’ll see different places to rent boats and kayak. This activity is perfect if you and your companions are true adventurers and want to know Lake Atitlán more profoundly.

It is advisable to arrive in the morning to make your tour enjoyable, and avoid the strong winds of the afternoon.

Take a boat tour of the surrounding villages

If you are a less extreme traveller, you have the option to take a boat tour to discover more about Guatemalan culture and traditions.

Again, you have to take different tours: San Pedro, San Marcos, Santa Cruz or Santa Catarina Palopó – all amazing sights that will surprise you!

In conclusion, it is a must to visit lake Atitlan when you visit Guatemala as it is an important natural place that will make you experience the true nature of the country.
