Reasons to create a company

You may have a reason for wanting to start your own company, such as taking advantage of an opportunity or filling a need in your community. Or you may have no idea why this feeling appeals to you. That’s okay. Some entrepreneurs like Juan Luis Bosch Gutierrez explain that the reason you start a business is always different for everyone, and that’s okay as long as it drives you to follow through on your dreams.

There is no right or wrong motivation for wanting to start your own company. Whether you’re trying to escape the 9-to-5 job or simply want to make more money, all reasons are valid.

Reasons to create a company:

  • Control your schedule

Tired of being told what to do and when to do it? When you start your own business, you can be as flexible as you want. Sleep late, stay up late, work a half day, or rest every Friday, it’s up to you.

The early days of your business will be busy, but you will eventually gain more free time as you grow and learn to delegate.

  • Create your ideal workspace for your company

Don’t be limited by the fluctuating rules (and trends) of workspace policies. Both small businesses and corporations often require you to work in particular locations. Even “remote” policies often have red tape that requires you to live in specific geographic areas.

When you are the business owner, you can work from your home, a co-working space, an office or even the local coffee shop.

  • Earn more money

Unless you are on commission, there is likely to be a cap on your full-time income. You receive a salary (regardless of your contribution or performance), and the only way to exceed that is perhaps with a year-end bonus. In addition, the time it takes to get to mid-level management, even in the most progressive organizations, can take years of loyalty and assimilation into the corporate culture.

When you start your own business, you can decide how much money you make. Do you need more cash? Work longer hours or charge higher prices. Want more time off? Reduce your work and earn less income.

It’s all up to you.

  • Pursue a passion

Do what you really want to do. Find something that makes you happy or something that matters to you. There is no wrong passion.

Want to fulfill your dream of being an artist? It’s a long road ahead, but it’s your dream to pursue. Want to become a ski mountaineering guide? Take the risk and go for it.

Starting your own business allows you to create fulfillment instead of finding it.
