Approximately a thousand years later, the city was discovered by a group of exporers at the end of the XIX century.

Nowadays, the park covers more than 570 km². Fo this reason, it is known as the core of the Maya Biosphere Reserve, in fact, is it considered the fourth largest continuous forest extension on the planet.

Due to its great extension, Tikal meets with other impressive cities. Here we present some of the most majestic ones:

Yaxhá: this place is surrounded by a lagoon of the same name. If you want to spend a day surrounded by this body of water and nature, you can or camp.

Uaxactún: here you will find space observatories, stelae and buildings dating from 550 B.C. to 900 A.D. You will feel in the ancient times of the mayan civilization.

Aguateca: This archaeological site is located in the municipality of Sayaxché and is considered one of the most spectacular archaeological sites in Guatemala. You can reach this site through the river, which makes it an incredible adventure.

As you can see, Tikal is an incredible natural park which is home of beautiful monuments and wildlife. For this reason, it has become a protected area, so you will not find any type of restaurant or store inside the park and there is no electricity and it is difficult to find a telephone signal.
